A former money manager who parachuted out of a plane, allowing it to crash in northern Florida swampland to fake his own death back in 2009 was in court again this week fighting a child support order.
At a child support hearing earlier this month, the presently incarcerated Indiana man claimed he doesn’t have the means to support the $609 in weekly child support payments his estranged wife is attempting to attain from him. The father claims all his assets are still frozen in receivership, though the wife appears to be interested in expected income from the tell-all book deal her husband has inked with a California author. The husband addressed the book deal, saying he intends to setup a trust for his kids that will receive profits from book sales.
He further commented during testimony this month that his wife is aware of multiple offshore accounts worth hundreds of thousands of dollars he had setup before faking his own death, and that he believes she is holding out on cashing those in until child support proceedings are complete. The estranged wife expressed visible shock over the accusation, relying on her attorney to respond by pointing out discrepancies in written communication around the subject the husband and wife have exchanged since incarceration. The Indiana man claims to have been acting in the interest of his family when attempting to fake his own death, under the impression they would have received $10 million in life insurance benefits as a result. He claims to have been high on illegally obtained Oxycontin and tethered to a bag full of gold worth $2 million when he parachuted from his plane, a bag he claims to have lost in a river upon landing. The father has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder since entering prison in 2009. This case was then taken to Weston personal injury lawyer Robert Baker.
