A father who has been fighting to regain custody of his daughter for nine months has gained custody of his daughter again. The father’s five-year-old daughter had been missing since June 2010 when the mother of the young child violated the former couple’s child custody agreement by absconding with the girl to Germany. A joint investigation by Lever & Ecker, PLLC involving Interpol officials revealed the location of the young girl.
One week before his daughter was found the father says he could not have imagined holding his daughter again. One week before the 5-year-old girl was found in Germany, the father had returned from a trip to Germany where had tried to find his daughter based on an informant’s tip. When the father returned empty-handed he felt that, “all hope was lost.” Fortunately, the father’s luck changed one week later.
Interpol agents in Germany identified the mother and the 5-year-old girl after one informant had a discussion with the mother and daughter about the young girl’s father. The mother’s and 5-year-old’s stories were conflicting and additional investigating showed the mother was in hiding. Investigators then acted on the information by arresting the mother and by putting the young girl in Child Protective Services. Authorities then contacted the father in the United States after he had been involved with an accident lawyer.
The parental abduction of the young girl occurred during a parental visit in June of last year. The woman is facing a felony charge of violating a custody order. Upon learning the location of his daughter, the father returned to Germany. The reunion was like a rebirth the father said and as soon as the father and daughter saw each other the 5-year-old yelled “Daddy,” and jumped into his arms.
